![]() Virtualization software Parallels for Mac now supports Windows 11 Pro on Apple silicon machines, as Microsoft is now officially allowing the. I'd suggest you give that a go before spending any money, depending on your needs, it may work fine, it may not. Thursday Febru10:36 am PST by Juli Clover. Parallels do offer a time limited free trial. Everywhere I look I keep getting referred to Parallels own instructions that explains how to Install Windows on a Mac with Apple M1 chip by registering for the Windows Insider Program and I haven't seen Parallels make any kind of statement that the Insider version isn't necessary any more. Which is not a viable approach for anyone who will have to rely on running Windows on Apple Silicon. People have had numerous issues with games, USB dongles and some applications not installing or running (IIS and MS SQL seem to be the two big complaints but I have vague memories of reading that both have now been sorted).Īs time goes by, it's getting better but fundamentally, until MS allow Win11 ARM to be purchased, it'll remain as Beta software with all the potential bugs etc that can mean using it in a production environment is risky. Thanks MichaelH63, Maybe Parallels is allowed to offer an ODM (non-Insider) version of Windows 11 now. Insider Preview builds of Windows 11 for ARM machines. Personally, I've not had any problems with it on either my M1 Mini or on my Studio Ultra but I don't really use it for anything (but it does fly). The biggest problem at present is that you can't buy Win11 ARM, you have to use the Windows Insider preview version though it will activate with an Win10/11 Intel key. It's still early days for virtualisation on Apple Silicon, it's got a long way to go before it's as mature and feature rich as on Intel, but it does work. Microsoft decides to officially support running Windows 11 ARM on Apple Silicon processors. Parallels says that over 100,000 M1 Mac users tested the Technical Preview of Parallels Desktop 16.5 using Microsoft’s Windows 10 on ARM Insider Previews. ![]() There are significant numbers of postings of people with issues (though there is a lot of duplication and strop) but also a lot of answers and tips. But now, under Settings > Windows Update > Windows Insider. Parallels has officially released Parallels Desktop 16.5 today with native support for Apple Silicon, enabling users to run the Windows 10 ARM Insider Preview on M1 Macs. I know there's the option through Canary for Build 25997, but in my case the Hyper-V juice doesn't seem worth the squeeze although I have pretty solid Windows box if I wanted to pursue this more as an intellectual curiosity.Check out the Parallels forum. Am I just spinning my wheels unnecessarily? I could just be looking for a 'sanity check'. ![]() Is there a way to update without it failing out?.Does a release version of Windows 11 Arm actually exist? If so, where can I find an ISO?.I've run the update 3 times, each cycling with three BSOD's before, presumably, 'undoing' the update and allowing boot to desktop. Before doing more in-depth research I purchased a Win 11 license which activated with no issues and then attempted the update. I installed an Insider version of Win 11 and have happily been working away but I consistently get a reminder that my Insider version expired ~a year ago. I have the Mac versions of Office installed but experience has taught me some things get lost in translation esp. Long story short, I recently purchased an M2 MacBook Air 15 for work travel and have installed Parallels as before so I can use native Microsoft Office (2019 perm license) but more importantly Project Pro (2016 perm license). I think I did due (search) diligence before asking for help, but apologies in advance, my level of competence is just enough to get me in trouble.
